The Widows Fund helps with curriculum costs and emergency needs. Deadline for spring enrollment is May 1.

The Children of Single Parents Fund assists children of single parents who, through no fault of their own, experience financial hardship during their homeschooling years. The next general enrollment period is July 2011.

The Members Helping Members Fund provides full and partial scholarships for HSLDA membership.

The Special Needs Children’s Fund enables financially struggling homeschooling families to provide a quality education for their children with special learning needs.

If you need assistance, I encourage you to apply. Don’t hesitate to ask for the help you need!

HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) is offering a free trial membership for a limited time.

HSLDA defends members in court at no extra charge if their homeschooling is challenged and protects the rights of homeschoolers around the world.

Membership also includes other benefits such as their magazine, access to experts who can help answer your questions about homeschooling, discount programs (I’ve saved on hotels with the HSLDA member code), and more.

If you’re homeschooling and not already an HSLDA member, I highly encourage you to join.

Disclosure: I’ve recommended HSLDA membership as long as I’ve homeschooled. With this special offer, I will get a free year’s membership if 5 people sign up for the free trial using my link.

Kevin Swanson of Generations with Vision recently interviewed me about single parent homeschooling for his radio program. You can listen to the interview here:

http://www.generationswithvision.com/Broadcasts/17926#

The first segment of the interview is Kevin talking about homeschooling in general, then I join him after the break.

Feel free to spread the word to your single-parent homeschooler friends!

Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse, posted this generous offer on Facebook:

“Mary Jo, if you know any single parents who are homeschooling please let them know that TOS Magazine offers free print subscriptions to them. Not a dime to them – totally free. TOS wants to support them. To us it’s amazing that they are trusting the LORD to help them in this noble calling to keep their kids home where they belong. And goodness, what a challenge that is to a single parent family.”

Just e-mail Gena at publisher@thehomeschoolmagazine.com to request your subscription.

Thanks so much, Gena and everyone at TOS!

HSLDA’s Court Report (Jan./Feb. 2011) has a long, excellent cover story about single-parent homeschooling.

I knew that there were a lot of us, but I had no idea there were 20,000 homeschooling single parents!

Read the article here.

And a warm welcome to new readers who found this blog through the resource box in the story!

Blessings,
Mary Jo

I was privileged to teach about writing and publishing for the Schoolhouse Expo today. I’m looking forward to hearing the other speakers, including keynote John Taylor Gatto on Friday night!

Registration for the week-long live event is still open (click on the image above), and it includes MP3 downloads of all session so that you can listen live or on your own schedule…or both!

I’ve just learned that I have 2 free tickets to give away. I wanted to offer them to my fellow single homeschooling moms first.

Please send me an e-mail using the “contact” button at the top of the page. The free tickets go to the first two who write to me.

Have a great week!

I really enjoyed this article by Julie Clark, a married mom of 3 with a full-time home-based job.

She talks about the importance of a support network, the benefits of a flexible schedule, having a flexible teaching style, using online resources, and maintaining an attitude of thankfulness.
