Join me for Mommy Jammies Night, hosted by Felice Gerwitz of the Ultimate Homeschool Expo. I’ll be talking about single-parent homeschooling and giving a free e-book to everyone who attends.

It starts at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, Tues., April 9. You can listen live here:

We’ll also have a Twitter party at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, with fabulous prizes! Find out all the details here:

Being a single parent is hard enough, but homeschooling as a single parent seems like an overwhelming challenge. However, the growing number of single-parent homeschoolers testifies that it can be done. I’ll share my story of God’s faithfulness and offer hope, encouragement, and practical tips for single parents who want to homeschool, as well as suggestions for how others in the church, community, or family can help.

See you there!

On the day public school starts in our town, we celebrate Homeschool Freedom Day (a term I coined many years ago). Whether or not our own homeschool year has started, we DON’T have lessons that day. Instead, we celebrate, usually by going to the park for a picnic with homeschooling friends . . . just because we can!

I wrote about this year’s celebration over at my blog for booklovers.

How do you celebrate Homeschool Freedom Day?

Homechooling Today has been part of my family’s homeschool journey almost since the beginning. I’m honored to write the “Literature through the Centuries” column for the magazine and still enjoy reading each issue after 15 years of homeschooling.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Homeschooling Today is hosting 20 weeks of fabulous prizes AND special Grand Prizes worth hundreds of dollars!

I’ve donated a copy of my time management course How Do You Do It All to the prizes.

You can enter the drawing for all the prizes here.

The weekly prize drawing is open to anyone, but only subscribers are eligible to win grand prizes. You’ll find an abundance of practical tools, encouragement, and inspiration for your homeschooling.

Check out Holly Nelson’s excellent article on the “triple threat” of homeschooling special needs children as a single parent.

Holly’s counsel is helpful even if your situation doesn’t include all 3 aspects she mentions. I especially like her advice to lean on God, not compare yourself with others, establish a support network, and take care of yourself.

July is the enrollment period to apply for assistance from the Children of Single Parents Fund at HSLDA.

This fund was established in 2005 through the gift of a concerned father who wanted to minister to single parents who were committed to the Lord, to their children, and to homeschooling.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Allow others to be blessed by blessing you!
